Improvisation and creativity in medicine as well as in the arts and sciences involve the ability to encounter as openly and directly as possible whatever data and experiences-patients, for example, or research results-come our way. How might acquaintance with the "free play" of improvisation foster greater attentiveness, acumen, and artistry in our practice?
