Polychromatophilic Normoblast
(Polychromatophilic Erythroblast)

Polychromatophilic normoblasts
Bone marrow aspirate smear, Wright-Giemsa stain, 1000x

Description:

The polychromatophilic normoblast is smaller still with a further decrease in the nuclear:cytoplasmic ratio than the late stage basophilic normoblast. The cytoplasm takes on a pink-grey appearance as the amount of hemoglobin in the cytoplasm increases. The nucleus may be eccentrically located, the nuclear chromatin is more clumped, parachromatin more abundant, and nucleoli are not visible.
