Basophilic normoblast
Bone marrow aspirate smear, Wright-Giemsa stain, 1000x

Description:

The immature basophilic normoblast is smaller than a pronormoblast, the cytoplasm remains dark blue, and may even be darker, the nucleus is smaller, the nuclear chromatin coarser, and nucleoli are less visible. With further maturation to the late stage of the basophilic normoblast the overall cell size, and the nuclear cytoplasmic ratio decreases further, and the cytoplasm takes on a lighter blue color.
