Neutrophilic Metamyelocyte
(Neutrophilic Juvenile)

Bone marrow aspirate, Wright-Giemsa stain, 1000x
Description:
When the nucleus of a mature myelocyte starts to indent, it is referred to as a metamyelocyte or juvenile until the indentation is greater than 50% of the diameter of the nucleus, at which time the stage is referred to as a neutrophilic band. The cytoplasm is all pink (acidophilic) with only secondary granules and the nuclear chromatin is clumped. The cell is only slightly smaller than a mature myelocyte.
