Find a physician specializing in Vascular Disease or Vein problems
The UVa Vascular Program brings together widely recognized experts in vascular surgery, vascular and interventional radiology, interventional cardiology and cardiovascular medicine to address a full range of vascular diseases. Endovascular as well as conventional open-operative repairs are performed. Care coordination in both the outpatient and inpatient setting is led by the team of vascular surgeons, interventionalists, and cardiovascular medicine physicians to address the risks to and the concerns of our vascular patients. Outpatient consultative "second opinions" are welcomed.
Types of conditions in which we specialize:
- Carotid artery disease, including proximal great vessel disease
- Peripheral arterial disease both acute and chronic vascular insufficiencies
- Mesenteric and renal arterial disease
- Vein problems such as deep vein thrombosis, edema or swelling of the extremities and varicose veins and spider veins
- Aortic disease and/or aneurysms, including thoracic, thoracoabdominal suprarenal, and infrarenal aortic aneurysms.
- Vascular malformations
- Compressison syndromes such as Thoracic Outlet, May-Thurner and Median Arcuate Ligament
Diagnostic services include:
- Accredited noninvasive diagnostic laboratories, including state-of-the-art Duplex imaging
- Advanced interventional radiologic diagnostics, including catheter-based arteriography, CT and magnetic resonance angiography, and intravascular ultrasound
- Chronic condition evaluations.
Medical Therapies:
- Drug therapy
- Optimizing medical management of hypertension
- Lipid management
- Nutrition counseling
- Vascular rehabilitation and exercise program
