UVa has the largest collaborative program for Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD) in the Commonwealth of Virginia. We take a team approach of both pediatric and adult cardiologists with specific training in adults with congenital heart disease, coordinating a team comprising specialists in electrophysiology, heart failure, interventional cardiology, cardiac imaging, cardiovascular surgery, anesthesia, maternal-fetal medicine and genetics, as well as nursing specialists and social work in pediatric and adult cardiology.
Services and offerings include:
- Outpatient consultation and management for ACHD patients
- Inpatient care for ACHD patients
- Comprehensive diagnostics, including echocardiography with technicians trained for congenital heart disease, fetal echocardiography and cardiac MRI
- Dedicated interventional cardiac catheterization for adults with congenital heart disease
- Electrophysiology services specific to ACHD - including cardiac resynchronization therapy, ablation of arrhythmias, and pacemaker/defibrillator devices.
- One of the largest adult congenital heart disease surgery programs in the mid-Atlantic region and the only heart and lung transplant program in Virginia
- Advanced drug therapies and devices for heart failure, including mechanical assist devices
