The Whitfield/Randolph Scholarship is awarded annually to a UVa School of Medicine student in the joint M.D./Ph.D. Program who is doing research on the human nervous system. The award stipulates that first priority be given to students conducting research on Alzheimer’s Disease. The recipients shall be known as the Whitfield/Randolph Scholars and shall be selected at the discretion of the Dean of the University School of Medicine. The award may be given to the same student any number of years.
This award was created by Mr. Randolph Whitfield of Atlanta, Georgia in memory of his parents, James Bryan Whitfield and Margaret Hayward Randolph. Mr. Whitfield's son, Dr. Randolph Whitfield, Jr. received his medical and graduate degrees from UVA in 1965 under a similar dual program.
