DR awards are restricted gift funds. The donor(s) may specify the purpose for the gift, restricting how and when it can be used, may further specify what portion of fund income and/or principal is available for use in any year, and may call for matching funds. These are Local or Department funds.


DU awards are unrestricted gift funds. The donor(s) have not placed any restrictions on the purpose, use, or control of the resources given. These are considered Local or Department funds.


DI awards may be either restricted or unrestricted. The donors' gift is to the institution which determines its purpose, use and distribution; these are considered Local or Department funds.


ER awards are restricted endowment funds.  Endowments are gifts to the University whose sole purpose is to be invested and the income from that investment used to for specified expenses.  The  income generated is used each year according to the donor's specified intent; generally to endow a chair, an eminent scholars award, or to permit the institution to achieve some other restricted purpose. The are considered Local or Department funds. An example of this is the Pratt Research Fellowship award.


EU awards are unrestricted endowment funds. Generally, the income from invested funds only is used for a general purpose. These are considered Local or Department funds. Funds may generally be used to pay for tuition, fees, tuition remission, and differentials.


EI awards are endowments made by donors to the institution. Income generated by the investment base is used by the institution for its purposes (restricted and/or unrestricted). These are considered Local or Department funds. An example of this is the DuPont Fellowship award.


EP awards are endowments made by donors to the institution.  Funds come from divested principal, and are used by the institution for its purposes (restricted and/or unrestricted).   These are considered Local or Department funds. 


FA awards are monies from other awards that are earmarked for indirect costs, or facilities and administration costs.  These may be restricted or unrestricted, and can be used for utilities,  maintenance, rent, libraries and costs for administrative offices.  These are considered State funds.
