Meet the Goldfarb Group!


Dr. Adam Goldfarb, our fearless leader,  is originally from Portland, Maine . He got his bachelors degree at Brown University in 1982. Following that, he attended Tufts University where he received his M.D. Dr. Goldfarb completed training in Pathology and a Post-doctoral research fellowship at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis . Prior to coming to the University of Virginia , he was on the faculty at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland , Ohio for five years. Dr. Goldfarb commutes daily by means of a bicycle.

Lorrie at computer

Lorrie Delehanty is originally from Frederick, MD.  Prior to coming to UVA, Lorrie worked as a Staff Scientist in the Research Division of GLAXO/Wellcome in Research Triangle Park , North Carolina . She also worked in a private small animal practice specializing in veterinary acupuncture.

 


Kamal Elagib is originally from Wad Medani, Sudan . He graduated from the faculty of Medicine at the University of Kahrtoum in Sudan in 1992. He holds his Ph.D. from the University of Oslo in Norway , which he received in 2000. "From Sudan to Norway , it is fabulous to search in the Variable Region." -The Institute of Immunology at Oslo . Kamal is currently married and has one daughter. He joined Dr. Goldfarb's group in 2001 to conduct research in transcription factors important for megakaryocyte differentiation.

Ivo

Ivailo Mihaylov is originally from Bulgaria.  He joined us from Yale University, where he completed a post-doctoral fellowship.

 


Sara Gonias recently graduated from William and Mary with a degree in Chemistry.   She worked with the Goldfarb lab throughout Undergrad and is excited to be spending the year with them studying Iron Deficiency Anemia.  Next year, Sara will be attending medical school.

Jill at bench

Jill Caronia is an Undergraduate Biology student at the University of Virginia .  She is working with Kamal on her independent honors research project.  Her scientific interests are leukemias and infectious disease.  She will be attending medical school next year!  Jill also enjoys baking and looks forward to graduating and having her own oven next year.
