Monthly

Each month we host the GBS Student Symposium Series. It's a 45-50 minute student talk accompanied by a free lunch. We try to vary the speakers and select students from various BIMS programs. It is a great, informal setting to present your data and get feedback about your research. If you are interested in presenting this year, contact Woo-Sin Park.

Spring Symposium

March 31, 2009 - Tuesday

Each year the Graduate Biosciences Society sponsors the annual Spring Research Symposium. It is an all day celebration of graduate research featuring oral presentations, career seminars, research posters, contests and a prominent keynote address.

This year's career seminar will be given by Steven Jacobs, a former UVA graduate student now working at Johnson and Johnson. This year's keynote address will be given by Dr. Tom Misteli from the NCI.

A much anticipated event at the Symposium is the presentation of the
Michael J. Peach Outstanding Graduate Student Award. This prestigious stipend award recognizes the accomplishments of our most talented and creative senior students, and has become increasingly competitive each year. (See your BIMS program chair for nomination procedures)

The Spring Research Symposium is a terrific way to share your current
research with your colleagues and peers in the Biomedical Sciences. You can look forward to having breakfast and lunch on us, and there is a wine and cheese reception following the keynote address. We hope to see you and your poster at this year's symposium!
