FAMILY MEDICINE MENTOR PROGRAM Medical Students interested in Primary Care often feel isolated in a large hospital with numerous sub-specialties. The Department of Family Medicine offers a way for you to make our home your home during medical school. We invite you to come to our events, get to know our community of physicians, and meet other students interested in primary care. One way to explore Primary Care is to sign up for our Mentor Program. Interested students will be paired with a Family Physician mentor. Students and mentors will be encouraged to meet occasionally to share interests and talk about a career in primary care. Students may connect with their mentors at any of our weekly (Friday lunch) Grand Rounds series. Students may shadow their mentors in clinic or on the wards and other informal activities can be planned with your mentor. Mentors include Family Medicine faculty and community Family Physicians. We will make an effort to pair mentors and students with similar interests (for example, obstetrics, rural medicine, international medicine, academic medicine, research, or women's health). We hope you will take advantage of this informal, personal way to contemplate a career in Primary Care. PLEASE CONTACT: Wanda Hudson, Predoctoral Program Coordinator if interested in this program. 924-1609; wmh9v@virginia.edu
