Ever since I was in 6th grade, I knew I wanted to do something in the medical field. I was the oldest of 7 children, so caring for others was an automatic. I had the wonderful opportunity to spend a large portion of my childhood in Germany, were my father was a pastor. Living abroad allowed me to become culturally sensitive and become very interested in the various cultures, by which I was surrounded. I enjoyed meeting people from a variety of countries and wanted to know their stories. After completing nursing school, I began working as a Medical-Surgical nurse in Harrisonburg, VA. Following this, I worked as a Labor and Delivery nurse at UVa. During this time, I obtained my MSN degree at UVa School of Nursing and became a Family Nurse Practitioner. I worked for a little over a year in Cardiology, then joined the Family Medicine Clinic team. One of the reasons I chose Family Medicine as my specialty, is because of the broad scope in which we can help people. Also, I love to be able to connect with my patients, follow them throughout their life, and be here to help them when they need the help. Each patient brings a new story and I look forward to discovering what that story will be. In addition to my work, I enjoy spending time with my husband, Dave and our son Gabriel. |
