Richard Lounsbery Award

Award: Medallion and funds to visit a laboratory or research institution in France; invited to give a lecture at the Academy

Purpose: Stimulate research in biology and medicine, and to encourage reciprocal scientific exchanges between the United States and France.

Who is eligible?  Young American and French scientists.

NAS Award in Molecular Biology

Purpose: Recent notable discovery in molecular biology by a young scientist who is a citizen of the United States.

NAS Award for Initiatives in Research

Purpose: Recognize innovative U.S.-citizen, young scientists, no older than 35 years of age, conducting research likely to lead toward new capabilities for human benefit. Rotates among the physical sciences, engineering, and mathematics -  2005 awards innovation in computational science/applied mathematics .

Troland Research Awards in Psychology

Purpose: Two awards for young investigators (age 40 or younger), to recognize unusual achievement and further empirical research in psychology regarding the relationships of consciousness and the physical world - preference given to experimental work taking a quantitative or other formal approach.
