Award: $50,000 for the first year; $50,000 for the second year
Deadline : September
Purpose: Emphasis on patient-centered research in several branches of clinical medicine, including internal medicine, neurology, pediatrics, psychiatry, and surgery.
Scope
: Applicants who perform their research at a US institution, under the supervision of a scientific adviser. The term is one year, with renewal for one year if satisfactory progress is demonstrated.

Who may nominate? Candidates are to be nominated by their department chairs.

Who is eligible? Qualified MDs, or MD/PhDs who've held degrees for less than eight years. Intended to be the first post-clinical fellowship; but each case is decided on its merits. Preference given to nominees who have two years of post-doctoral training and research, or less.

The nomination packet: Letter providing assurance the nominee will work with the guidance of a scientific adviser of established reputation. As a general rule, no more than one fellowship will be awarded to a given institution in the same year of competition. See details online.
