Secretary of U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)--Secretary's Award for Medical Students:

Award: Single discipline awards up to $3,500 for first place; Interprofessional awards up to $7,500 for first place
Deadline: February
Purpose: Encourages health professions students across the U.S. to pursue new ideas to promote health and prevent disease.

Who is eligible? Part-time or full-time students in a baccalaureate or higher degree health professions education program affiliated through a participating professional association with the Federation of Associations of Schools of the Health Professions (AAMC).

The project packet: Project proposals can describe innovative health promotion projects or innovative preventive risk-reduction efforts for a targeted community.

Award: $5,000 and $1,000 will be donated to the institution's OSR Chapter
Deadline : April
Purpose: Recognizes a medical school faculty physician who exemplifies the qualities of a caring and compassionate mentor in the teaching and advising of medical students.

Who may nominate? The nomination process will be conducted and supervised by the Organization of Student Representatives (OSR) in each medical school.
Who is eligible? Each medical school in the United States may nominate one physician faculty member.

The nomination packet: The AAMC will provide each OSR primary representative with nomination materials including the award criteria, a description of the process, necessary forms for submitting nominations.

Abraham Flexner Award: http://www.aamc.org/about/awards/flexner.htm

Award: $10,000
Deadline : May
Purpose: AAMC's most prestigious honor for an individual's extraordinary contributions, national in scope, to medical education.

Who may nominate? Any faculty or staff of a medical school or teaching hospital; any member of an academic society; the Award Review Committee.
Who is eligible? Any individual who has made a significant contribution.

The nomination packet 8 copies of a statement of evidence in justification; 8 copies of the nominee's CV, including current address; seconding letters of support are not necessary; if included, nor more than 3 are accepted and 8 copies of each must be submitted.

Alpha Omega Alpha Robert J. Glaser Distinguished Teaching Award: http://www.aamc.org/about/awards/aoa.htm

Award: awardee--$10,000 grant; awardee's nominating institution--$5,000 for teaching activities; if the nominating institution has an AOA chapter, the chapter--$1,000
Deadline : May signed by the Dean
Purpose: Recognize significant contributions to medical education

Who may nominate? The Dean of each medical school in the United States and Canada 
Who is eligible? One faculty member per medical school.
