Award: Grant funding varies (see website for details)
Deadline: one award cycle each calendar year
Purpose: Encourage the development of medical student-initiated services and programs to the community.
Scope: Institutions and organizations, including branches and clinical campuses, is limited to one award every two years.

Acceptable grant authors? Medical students.

Who is eligible?  Medical students at AAMC member.

The grant packet: Describe the project in detail--of particular interest is the extent of student involvement; projected schedule and budget; how project continuity will be maintained; integration of the project into local government/social services programs; gradual assumption of institutional support.

Award: $10,000 and present the Nickens Lecture at AAMC annual meeting
Deadline : April
Purpose : Honor outstanding individuals promoting justice in medical education and healthcare.

Who may nominate?

Who is eligible? Nominees may come from a wide range of fields, including medicine, public health, education, law, nursing, and the social sciences.

The nomination packet : 10 collated sets (1 original, 9 copies): letter explaining nominee's qualifications (5 double-spaced pages or less); the candidate's CV including current address.

Award: $15,000 grant to support academic and professional activities
Deadline: April
Purpose : Recognize outstanding junior faculty committed to an academic career, demonstrating leadership in addressing inequities in medical education and healthcare.

Who may nominate? A medical school may nominate one current faculty member.

Who is eligible?  MD or PhD faculty who are United States citizens or permanent residents holding the rank of assistant professor in a medical school department for no more than 3 years.

The nomination packet : 10 collated sets (1 original, 9 copies): letter from the medical school dean or dean's designate (see website for details);  2 letters of reference (one from section/department chair); a personal statement from the nominee (see website for details); a current CV.

Award: $5,000 grant to support academic and professional activities
Deadline: April
Purpose : Outstanding third-year medical school students demonstrating leadership efforts to eliminate inequities in medical education and health care, and leadership in addressing educational, societal, and health-care needs of minorities.

Who may nominate?   A medical school may nominate one student.

Who is eligible?   Students must be United States citizens or permanent residents; entering the third-year of study at an accredited United States medical school in fall.

The nomination packet: 10 collated sets (1 original, 9 copies: letter from the medical school dean or dean's designate (see website for details); a letter of recommendation from a faculty member; a personal statement from the nominee (see website for details) ; a current CV; nominee's official medical school transcript.

Purpose: Recognize member institutions or organizations with exceptional longstanding, major institutional commitment to addressing community needs.
Scope : U.S. member institutions or organizations

Who may nominate? Medical school dean, hospital CEO, or academic society president.

Who is eligible? U.S. member institution or organization.

The nomination packet: An original and six copies not to exceed 15 pages: a cover letter; a narrative description (not to exceed six pages); descriptions of the programs and their impact; the participation of faculty and students; a description of how the activities are funded; one or two letters, preferably from community leaders; a modest selection of newsclips from the public press; No video tapes.

Award: $10,000
Deadline: May
Purpose: In honor of former AAMC President Dr. David Rogers, recognizes medical school faculty making major contributions to improving the health and health care of the American people.
Scope: Limited to individuals who have spent the majority of their career in academic medicine in the United States.

Who may nominate?  Any faculty or staff member of a medical school or teaching hospital or by any member of an academic society.

Who is eligible? Nominee should have contributed to the substance of medicine; must be an individual who serves on the faculty of an AAMC member medical school or teaching hospital.

The nomination packet: 8 copies of a statement of evidence in justification (5 pages or less); 8 copies of the candidate's CV including current address; secondary letters of support not necessary, but if included, must submit 8 copies (no more than 3 accepted).
