April 17, 2009

Dean's Office delivers Must/May List to Department Chairs.

April 17, 2009 -
May 1, 2009

Departments review Must-May List, contact secondary Department Chairs, schedule performance reviews with faculty on the MUST advancement list, designate Department P&T Contact and Department P&T Committee Chair and become familiar with resources on P&T website.

May 1, 2009 -
June 1, 2009

Departments conduct Annual Faculty Performance Review with faculty on the MUST advancement list, work with candidates to draw up list of appropriate referees, assist each candidate to prepare CV or request track changes or off-the-clock status for faculty members who must be considered in 2009-2010.

June 1, 2009

Departments forward list of MUST candidates and Faculty Promotion Request Forms to the Dean's Office.  P&T Contact confirms that complete referee information is entered into the P&T Data Entry System and candidate CVs are uploaded to the P&T website.

July 1, 2009

Departments forward list of MAY candidates and Faculty Promotion Request Forms to the Dean's Office.  P&T Contact confirms that complete referee information is entered into the P&T Data Entry System and candidate CVs are uploaded to the P&T website.

July 1, 2009 - August 31, 2009

Departments appoint and orient Department P&T Chair and select Department P&T Committee.

September 4, 2009

Dean's Office provides Department Contacts access to candidate referee letters for Department P&T Committee review.  Referee letters are confidential and must not be shared with candidate.

September 8, 2009 -October 1, 2009

Department P&T Committees meet to review candidate portfolios and prepare summary statement giving recommendation and final vote for each candidate; summary statements are submitted to Department chairs.

October 1, 2009

Chair recommendations and candidate portfolios are submitted to the Dean's Office, including Department P&T Recommendation Form for each candidate. 

November 2009 - December 18, 2009

The SOM P&T Committee may request additional or revised information.  Department Chairs will be notified of any action not recommended by SOM P&T Committee.

December 18, 2009

Candidates who were not recommended for promotion or tenure by the SOM P&T Committee will be notified.  Important note:  Appeal of SOM P&T Committee recommendations can be based only on new information.  Appeals packets must be submitted to the Dean's Office by January 12, 2010.

January 15, 2010

Departments submit candidate appeal packet to Dean's Office.

January 22, 2010

Dean's Office notifies Department Chair outcome of appeal.

June and July 2010

Provost makes recommendations to Board of Visitors, who meet on June 10-11, 2010.  BOV sends notification letters to candidates and posts decisions on the Inside UVA website.
