New Faculty Hires at Senior Ranks
All hires at the rank of associate/full professor with term must be approved by the Dean's Office, consistent with Provost Policy. The approval process is as follows: all new faculty hires at the tenured associate professor level (AI, CI, CE) and all full professors (AI, CI, CE and tiCF and tiRF) must be reviewed by a subcommittee of the SOM P&T. The subcommittee will make their recommendation to the Dean, and the Dean then carries affirmative recommendations forward to the Provost and BOV.
PLEASE NOTE: The letter of offer may be modified to state the anticipated rank, "contingent upon approval by the Provost and BOV." The Dean's Office will work closely with you to make this process timely and responsive to your recruiting calendar.
NEW HIRE P&T PACKET: to include the Chair's letter of nomination for appointment specifying track and rank; updated cv; appropriate documentation of excellence in education; the names with titles and addresses (including e-mail and fax) of five independent external referees (the Dean's Office will then solicit these letters of reference).
PROCESS: When the letters of reference are received, the Dean's Office will provide packet to the SOM P&T Committee Chair, who will convene three members of the New Hires Subcommittee* (see membership pool below) for immediate review and recommendation to the Dean. The Committee Chair will determine appropriate representation, e.g. two clinical and one basic science member for appointment to a Basic Science Department. The Dean will consider the recommendation of the Subcommittee, and write her letter of nomination to the Provost. The Provost will review and place approved actions on the BOV roster for formal apporval at the next scheduled meeting of the BOV.
