Cardiovascular Endocrinology

Clinical Activities: Dr. Carey provides clinical care in general endocrinology, cardiovascular endocrinology, adrenal disease and hypertension. A nationally recognized expert in high blood pressure, Dr. Carey provides a state-of-the-art approach to blood pressure problems, including testing for mutations in genes causing hypertension. Special areas of clinical interest include primary (essential) hypertension, disorders of the renin-angiotensin system, primary aldosteronism, pheochromocytoma, and renal vascular hypertension. Dr. Carey has special expertise in fluid and electrolyte disorders, Cushing’s syndrome and adrenal insufficiency. In addition to high blood pressure, Dr. Carey provides a comprehensive approach to cardiovascular risk, including lipid disorders, the insulin resistance syndrome and diabetes mellitus.

Dr. Carey works with a diabetes educator (Katty Davis) in the care of diabetes, and provides nutritional , exercise and other lifestyle recommendations that reduce cardiovascular risk. Dr. Carey’s clinic meets Wednesdays

His Diabetes and Cardiovascular Clinic meets on Thursday mornings at Northridge, Suite 201. The Diabetes and Cardiovascular Clinic will provide comprehensive care for people who have diabetes and cardiovascular disease or cardiovascular risk factors. Dr. Guise heads a new Clinic for Osteoporosis and Metabolic Bone Disease in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Endocrinology. The Aurbach Laboratories were established in 2002 and encompass basic research in bone biology and the effects of cancer on the skeleton as well as clinical practice in metabolic bone diseases.
