Fellowship in Emergency Medical Services
The Division of EMS, established in 1996, consists of two faculty members who focus on
aeromedical and ground operations, EMS personnel training, and HAZMAT and
disaster operations. Division faculty are both regionally and nationally
involved in EMS professional and educational organizations as well as actively
engaged in clinical research. They also provide medical oversight for a wide
range of EMS services.
The Division is responsible for the paramedic training program in conjunction with
the local community college, Critical Care Paramedic training/
certification, Pegasus critical care air and ground
operations, hospital based ALS and BLS response units, MedCom communications center, intermediate
providers training programs and the regional prehospital quality improvement
program.
The prehospital program provides medical direction to rescue
squads and training to EMT-Basics, Shock Trauma Technicians, Cardiac Technicians
and EMT-Paramedics in Central Virginia and throughout Virginia.
