Inpatient Services
A physician plus nutrition support specialists provide recommendations for enteral tube feedings and parenteral nutrition for patients with malnutrition, malabsorption, metabolic disorders and critical illness. Patients are evaluated for the source of their malnutrition and assessed for specific nutrient deficiencies. The multidisciplinary team also provides state-of-the-art care to all enteral access for difficult-to-nourish patients who previously required parenteral nutrition.
Continuum Home Nutrition Team
Continuum Home Health Company, part of the UVA Health System, offers a nutrition team consisting of a gastroenterologist, pharmacist, registered dietitian and registered nurses to monitor and assist patients who are on home tube feedings or home parenteral nutrition. The Continuum nutrition team provides products and supplies that are directly related to the patient's nutrition care. Nutrition regimens are adjusted on a regular basis depending on the patient's clinical condition. The home nutrition team can also assist the referring physician by ordering and monitoring necessary laboratory values and adjusting the parenteral and enteral tube feedings as necessary from home. The registered dietitian also assists with the patient's transition to a normal diet when appropriate. More information here.
