 December 4, 2004 - Holiday Bash

Highlights from the March 27th Meeting

This installment of the celiac support group was filled with thought-provoking conversation, new members, new hostess (April – new RD at UVA) and best of all, gluten free beer.

Samples of Krazy Salt were provided from the manufacture. There are many new varieties that can be purchased at most local grocery stores.

Roll out the barrel – Gluten Free Beer is here!
Romapo Valley Brewery is selling and shipping Gluten Free Beer.  They offer Honey Logger for $35.00 per case, plus shipping and handling.  A sample 6-pack is available for $10.00.  They can be reached from 9:00 to 5:00 Monday through Friday.  For more information:

Celiac Group members claim low-carb saves the day
Due to low-carb craze many fast food restaurants are now serving bunless burgers.   No more asking for a burger with no bun and getting a funny look from the cashier. Now you can be proud to order your gluten-free burger and enjoy the confusion on their faces when you ask for baked potato on the side.  The Digestive Health medical staff wants to issue a word of caution about eating bun less burgers. There is a risk of cross-contamination of gluten from the grill – chew at your own risk!

This will be a fun-filled morning complete with fresh samples of the latest gluten-free foods, a 30-minute grocery store tour (9:30am and 11:00am) designed to reduce time spent scouring the isles looking for gluten-free products and best of all, an outdoor cooking demonstration (10:00am) by baker Lee Tobin.  RSVP is required in order to have enough food to feed our hungry mouths. Please e-mail
