Recognition Societies Within the UVa Health System
Compass Rose Society
The Compass Rose Society is the UVa Health System's most prestigious donor society, honoring the leadership and direction of our most generous benefactors. Compass Rose Society members are individuals who have given $250,000 or more cumulatively to the UVa Health System during their lifetime. Their gifts benefit the School of Medicine, the School of Nursing, the Claude Moore Health Sciences Library, and the UVa Medical Center, including its centers and programs. Gifts qualifying donors for membership in the society include:
- Cash, including matching gifts from donor's employer.
- Securities or other appreciated assets.
- Real estate whose value has been substantiated through appraisal.
- Estate gifts such as: gifts in trust, charitable remainder trusts, pooled income trusts, charitable gift annuities, life insurance policies, bequests, and retirement plans.
- Gifts made by family members from family foundations.

Our Partners in Health program salutes the Health System's most loyal annual supporters. Gifts that qualify a donor as a Partner include the following:
Friends
Friends express their gratitude and support for the care they or their families received from the health care professionals at the UVa Health System by:
- Making gifts totaling up to $999, including corporate matching gifts.
- A pledge of support for current operations payable by June 30th of the current fiscal year.
- Making memorial gifts in memory of or in honor of a family member, friend, physician, or nurse.
University of Virginia Recognition Societies
The Lawn Society
Taking its name from the ensemble of faculty residences and student rooms Thomas Jefferson arranged adjacent to the Rotunda, the prestigious Lawn Society honors alumni and friends of the University who have made cumulative, lifetime gifts of $100,000 or more across Grounds. Gifts qualifying donors for membership in the Lawn Society may be in the form of:
- Cash, including matching gifts from the donor's employer.
- Securities or other appreciated assets.
- Real estate whose value has been substantiated by appraisal.

Irrevocable gifts in trust, including funded charitable remainder trusts, pooled income trusts, or charitable gift annuities.
- Paid-up life insurance policies with the University as beneficiary (based on cash surrender value).

Gifts made by family members from family foundations or closely held corporations.

Membership in the Cornerstone Society recognizes planned gifts such as:
The Rotunda Society
The Rotunda Society recognizes the University's most loyal annual supporters. Gifts that qualify a donor for membership in the Rotunda Society include the following:
Within the Rotunda Society, the University recognizes five levels of giving:
- The Dome Level - $25,000 and up
- The Colonnade Level - $10,000 - $24,999
- The Serpentine Level - $5,000 - $9,999
- The Pavilion Level - $2,500 - $4,999
- The Portico Level recognizes annual giving at the $1,000 to $2,499 level by those alumni who graduated from one of the last five classes.
School of Medicine Annual Fund Recognition Societies
Many School of Medicine alumni, faculty, and friends direct contributions to a wide variety of scholarships, professorships, lectureships, Health System library projects and research interests within the Medical Alumni Association and the School of Medicine.
The Annual Fund Gifts are recognized in the following societies:
- Dean’s Circle - $10,000 +
- Co-Founders Society - $5,000 - $10,000
- Harvey Jordan Society - $1,000
- Paul Barringer Society - $500
- Robley Dunglison Society - $250
