The UVA Health Foundation
The University of Virginia Health Foundation was created in 2002 to advance the missions of the UVA Health System — the Schools of Medicine and Nursing, the Medical Center, and the Claude Moore Health Sciences Library — through resource development, financial stewardship, and advocacy among donor constituencies. Through the Foundation, donors and volunteer leaders become vital partners with the Health System and the University and help to ensure the growth and future success of our patient care, education, and research programs.
The Health Foundation's Board of Trustees, led by chair Richard L. Sharp, is a diverse group of volunteers (grateful patients or their family members, medical and nursing alumni, parents, and community members) who share an interest in health. These leaders from the private and public sectors work closely with Health System and University leadership to foster philanthropy for the $500 million Campaign for Health. Karen Rendleman, who leads the Health System Development Office fund-raising team, serves as the Executive Director of the UVA Health Foundation.
The Foundation receives gifts in support of the Health System and dispenses funds in accordance with donors' intentions and Health System priorities. Deposits to the UVA Health Foundation are appropriately invested and stewarded in accordance with the University's policy for affiliated foundations. Donors to the Health Foundation are recognized through University and school giving societies.
