Residency Training ProgramResidency Information | Application Information The Department of Dermatology has five faculty members, including two dermatologic surgeons, and a dermatopathologist with a joint appointment in Dermatology and Pathology. The department is equipped with a phototherapy unit for both PUVA and UVB and a pulsed dye laser for the treatment of vascular lesions. Besides UVa, the Department of Dermatology also has a satellite clinic at Western State Hospital in nearby Staunton, Virginia. The objective of the department is to provide a stimulating educational atmosphere. By the end of the three-year training period, residents should be able to acquire Board certification and competently practice Dermatology. The department adheres to residency program requirements set by the American Board of Dermatology, Inc. Residency InformationTwo residents are appointed each year by the Department of Dermatology. Only applicants who are willing to stay for the full three-year training period will be considered. All applicants must complete a PGY1 internship before starting their dermatology residency.Residents are expected to participate and take leadership roles in conferences and teaching responsibilities. Dermatopathology is an essential part of the dermatology training program, and regular teaching sessions are conducted by the dermatopathologist. First and Second Year Residents: responsible for inpatient and outpatient care, as well as in-patient consultations. Third Year Residents: expected to have acquired a working knowledge of dermatology and appropriate skills in dermatologic surgical techniques. Third year residents have patient care responsibilities as well as teaching and administrative duties.

Applications and all supporting material should be submitted through ERAS by November 1, 2007. Due to the large number of applicants, you will not be notified if you are not invited. The Department participates in the Dermatology Specialty Match, and applicants should register with the National Resident Matching Program. UVA sponsors J1 Visas. We require that the PGY1 year be completed in the U.S. We request 4 Letters of Recommendation in addition to the Dean's letter. There are no Board score cut-offs, but excellent scores are an advantage. return to top
