Accessing the Shared Network Server

Effective Immediately

The Flow Cytometry Core Facility has moved to a new server for data storage.  If you wish to take advantage of this server space you must register for a Meduser Account.  This process takes about 30 seconds.  Please go to https://meduser.achs.virginia.edu/flow and just follow the directions.   One issue you may have with the site is that a self-signed certificate is used to encrypt the web traffic when a new account is made.  This causes warning notices to come up about the certificate.   Just click through the warning.

If you choose not to set up a Meduser account then you and your lab members will have to bring thumb drives in order to save your data.  There will be only one workstation  where data can be transferred to a thumb drive. The instrument hard drives will no longer be available for storage nor will the computers be available for thumb drive access

The Flow Cytometry CORE has a networked server that is available for all users to temporarily store data for later processing at the CORE or elsewhere.  All users should move their data off of this server every month to keep it from filling up and blocking other users from storing data on it.

Accessing from outside of the CORE:

The server can be accessed directly through the UVa network, or through a web portal.

Direct Network Access:

With a PC, follow the directions on this document .

With a Mac running OS X follow these directions

  • Click the 'GO' tab on the top menu bar
  • Select "Connect to server..."
  • Type:   128.143.19.25/flow into the field and click on "Connect"
  • When the next window appears, type your computing ID into the "Name" field and your Meduser password into the "Password" field.  (To have an account on our server you must already have an Meduser account.)  The server window should now open and you should be able to open your PI's folder

Accessing from inside the CORE:

The analysis computers in the CORE have links on their desktops that make accessing the server easy.

Resetting your Meduser Password

If you forgot your password, send an email to achs-lab@virginia.edu from the email account with the same id as your meduser account.  The email should ask to have your password reset.  We'll reset it and then you can go to the web page and change it to whatever you prefer.
