Accessing the Shared Network Server

The Flow Cytometry CORE has a networked server that is available for all users to temporarily store data for later processing at the CORE or elsewhere.  All users should move their data off of this server every month to keep it from filling up and blocking other users from storing data on it.

Accessing from outside of the CORE:

The server can be accessed directly through the UVa network, or through a web portal.

Direct Network Access:

With a PC, follow the directions on this document . (http://www.healthsystem.virginia.edu/internet/cytometry/protocols/Instruction-for-Mapping-the-Flow-Cytometry-Core-Facility.doc)

With a Mac running OS X follow these directions

  • Click the 'GO' tab on the top menu bar
  • Select "Connect to server..."
  • Type "smb://home2/fccf/your_username" into the field and click on "Connect"
  • When the next window appears, type your user name into the "Name" field and your EServices password into the "Password" field.  (To have an account on our server you must already have an EServices account.  If you forgot your password, contact ITC
  • The server window should now open and you should be able to open your PI's folder

Indirect Web Access:

Use the 'Home Directory Web Server' at https://gwis.virginia.edu/homedir/

Once in your home directory, select 'fccf' from the drop down menu at the top-left of the screen labeled "Visit:"

This works for both PCs and MACs.

Accessing from inside the CORE:

The analysis computers in the CORE have links on their desktops that make accessing the server easy.
