Cheryl Bourguignon
Cheryl Bourguignon, PhD, RN, Associate Professor of Nursing, is a CSCAT faculty member and the statistician for CSCAT pre- and postdoctoral fellows and junior faculty members. Her clinical expertise is in the care and management of persons with chronic illness, particularly rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and fibromyalgia. Dr Bourguignon's PhD degree is in statistics; she is a master teacher of statistical content and teaches the statistical sequence (Stats I, II, and III). She has served as the statistician in numerous clinical research studies both at UVA and prior to coming to UVA. Dr. Bourguignon's research focuses on intervention studies using complementary practices for the relief of symptoms (pain, fatigue, sleep disturbances, and depression/depressed mood) and inflammation in women with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and was PI on a recently completed R21. She has conducted pilot studies investigating the influence of ovarian hormones on symptoms and disease activity in women with RA. She has extensive experience mentoring graduate students and junior faculty members in research design and statistical analysis. Cheryl completed a one year postdoctoral fellowship at UCSF prior to coming to UVA and was a postdoctoral fellow in the CSCAT for two years.
