Ann Gill Taylor
Ann Gill Taylor, EdD, MS, RN, FAAN, a nurse clinical researcher for almost four decades in academic health care settings, is the director of the Center for the Study of Complementary and Alternative Therapies at the University of Virginia. She is the PI on a T32 and also directs the University's K-30 clinical research training program, both of which are funded by the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine. Dr. Taylor brings her combined skills and knowledge of rigorous clinical research planning and implementation and knowledge of curriculum development and instruction to clinical research training to pre- and postdoctoral trainees. Given her long tenure at the University of Virginia, her familiarity with resources and potential learning opportunities, and her interdisciplinary collaborations, she and her Center faculty are able to offer pre- and postdoctoral trainees clinical research training of the highest quality.
Dr.Taylor's current research spans three categories of complementary practices and products, including body-based modalities (massage to reduce the report of selected symptoms and improve quality of life in patients diagnosed with cancer); bioelectromagnetic therapies (testing a portable Russian-developed bioenergetic device to reduce pain, inflammation, and speed healing of high and low ankle injuries); and biologically-based therapies (testing the effects of the antioxidant alpha lipoic acid to determine reduction in oxidative stress and associated changes in persons with peripheral arterial disease).
