Study Links Waist-to-Hip Ratio to Heart Disease Risk: 
Researchers at UT Southwestern Medical have found that people with a larger waist-to-hip ratio may have a higher risk of heart disease.

More Women than Men Having Mid-Life Stroke:     Women between the ages of 45 and 54 are more likely to suffer a stroke than men in the same age group according to a study published this summer in Neurology.  

New Minimally Invasive Heart Valve Procedure: Learn about a woman who had a leaky heart valve repaired at UVA with a new less invasive technique. 

When is the right time for angioplasty?
A study published this spring in the New England Journal of Medicine found that many of the more than 1 million angioplasty procedures - which open clogged arteries with a small tube called a stent - performed each year in the U.S. may be unnecessary.

But the University of Virginia Health System's Lawrence Gimple, M.D., and Michael Ragosta, M.D., say that the study reinforces UVA's39;s decision to only perform angioplasty procedures in certain heart disease cases.
