Quality Assurance/Preventive Maintenance

Quality Assurance (QA) and Preventive Maintenance (PM) procedures are performed:

  1. To insure that patient-contact devices and systems are operating within manufactured specifications.
  2. As required by Regulatory Authorities as a component of the Licensure and Accreditation process.
  3. To confirm/modify the Asset Register.

All medical equipment is evaluated for inclusion in the Equipment Management Program and tagged with a CE bar-code for tracking1 and either a PM tag2 or a sticker denoting that it is not in the PM program3.

According to type, risk and maintenance requirements, therapeutic, diagnostic and analytical devices used in patient care are inspected at regularly scheduled intervals if they meet risk criteria set forth by the Hospital's Equipment Management Plan.

Devices that receive regular scheduled maintenance are tagged with a sticker that indicates its date of "expiration" or the date the equipment needs to be reinspected.

If you notice a device which has an expired date of PM Inspection or need further information on the program, please call the Department at 4-2391.
