Laboratory Rotations Perhaps the most important step a graduate student will make is the selection of his or her thesis adviser. Experience in the laboratories of potential advisors is essential to making an informed choice. Laboratory rotations provide the opportunity for students to determine which faculty member's lab is best suited to their interests, skills and temperament. Students interact directly with faculty members, post-docs, and other students in determining the right lab for their thesis research. Students typically do 2-3 laboratory rotations after consultation with their Advisory Committee. In most cases, selection of a thesis adviser is done by the end of the first year. |
