The research laboratories of the Immunology Training Program occupy lab space in several floors of adjoining buildings in the School of Medicine. These modern laboratory facilities provide an outstanding environment for conducting cutting edge research in immunology. The immunology students and post-docs have access to comprehensive research support services and equipment to meet needs such as flow cytometry and single cell sorting, generation of transgenic and knockout mice, generation of hybridomas, specialized tissue culture, confocal microscopy/imaging technology, electron microscopy, and magnetic resonance imaging of small animals. In addition, a comprehensive Biomolecular Core Facility performs DNA sequencing, oligonucleotide synthesis and chip microarray analysis, peptide synthesis, and various types of protein analysis. The latter is complemented by a world-renowned mass spectrometry facility. The newly-renovated Claude Moore Health Sciences Library, houses a huge collection of books and 2,900 journals, many of which are also available free on-line in full-text form to UVa students and faculty. In addition, the Carter Immunology Center library also hosts a specific collection of immunology-related journals. The Academic Computing-Health Sciences Office provides expert assistance on computer-related issues from data acquisition and imaging to broad area networking and bioinformatics. |
