| The Beirne B. Carter Center for Immunology Research was set up through a generous gift from Beirne B. Carter. Mr. Carter was a prominent Virginia Businessman and a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Commerce. His loyalty and support of the University of Virginia was manifested in a number of generous contributions culminating in the endowment for the Beirne B. Carter Center for Immunology Research. The focus of the Center is to expand basic and clincial research in the fields of immunology and immunological diseases. The Beirne B. Carter Lecture in Immunology was established to bring a distinguished medical scientist each year to the Univeristy. In keeping with Mr. Carter's vision, the scientist is chosen based on their research accomplishments contributing to areas of basic and clinical immunology and to our understanding of human disease and its cure. |
