Patrick Walsh

Patrick Walsh previously served as the Research Assistant for the Critical Incident Analysis Group since February 2005 and became the program coordinator for Research Strategies Network in the fall of 2008. He leads the organization of the Group’s Conferences and meetings, including the annual spring conference held at the University each April. These conferences included “Hostage to Terrorism: Governmental and Non-Governmental Response Strategies” in 2005, “Critical Intelligence, Communication and Response: Formatting Lessons of the Recent Terrorist Attacks to Future Threats” in 2006, “Root, Stem and Branch: Home-Grown Radicals and the Limits of Terrorism” in 2007, “Cyber Incursions: Erosions of Security and Social Trust” in March 2008, and "Suicide by Cop: Averting the Crisis" in December 2008. Mr. Walsh has also coordinated meeting a trilogy of meetings – “Avenues for Dialogue: Driving Discourse toward Peaceful Goals” in London, UK (November 2007), Washington, DC (December 2007), and served on the writing team for the third meeting, held in the Middle East (February 2008).

Mr. Walsh maintains the Group’s website and assists in the design of some of its periodic publications. He also appoints and supervises a select group of University students who assist in the preparation of the Group’s activities during the academic year.

In his capacity with the Group, he also acts as coordinator on a multi-year project investigating community resilience in the National Capital Region. For this grant, which is sponsored by an arm of the Department of Defense, Mr. Walsh was integral in the preparation of the grant materials for submission to the Department, including the development of the project’s multi-million dollar budget.

Mr. Walsh has collaborated with members of the University’s Department of Toxicology on the October 2007 Minerva Medica publication “The evaluation and management of acute poisoning emergencies.”

During the 2008 spring conference, Mr. Walsh was presented an award for Excellence and Dedication to the Group, by the group’s co-chairs Edwin Meese III and John, Lord Alderdice. Mr. Walsh was also included on a Resolution from the State Legislature of Tennessee for being a member of the first high school class in the state to earn an International Baccalaureate Diploma.

Mr. Walsh is a recent graduate of the University of Virginia, with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and a Bachelor of Arts in the Spanish language. Mr. Walsh hails from Nashville, Tennessee, and spends his spare time enjoying television game shows and country music of all types.
