Q: If my child has heart disease can he or she attend regular school?

A: Yes. Even children with heart transplants may attend regular school.

Q: How long after heart surgery will my child be out of school?

A: Usually one to two weeks after heart surgery.

Q: Can my child take gym in school?

A: The answer is yes for most children with heart defects. Some must rest when tired, and some may not participate in competitive athletics. Ask you child's doctor for specific recommendations for your child.
