Holter Monitor

Nancy McDaniel M.D.

This test records the heart beat and rhythm for a 24 hour period. This test is used to evaluate how fast or slow the heart beats while the child is awake, playing, exercising or sleeping. It is used to check for abnormal patterns of heart rate, known as arrhythmias.

The test is performed by placing electrocardiogram patches on the chest and connecting them to a small tape recorder the size of a Walkman. A diary is also given, to assess any symptoms such as chest pain or dizziness.
