Ebstein's AnomalyNancy McDaniel M.D.The heart in this defect has four chambers and four valves. The valve between the right collecting chamber and right pumping chamber did not form correctly. This valve (tricuspid valve) is moved low down in the right pumping chamber. The right collecting chamber becomes very large. Some children have a mild form of Ebstein's Anomaly and are no different from normal children. They need no treatment. If the abnormality of the valve is more severe, there may be blockage to the lung artery. This can cause the child to be blue (cyanotic). Some children with this defect have an abnormal heartbeat. Some children will need to have the valve strengthened or replaced by an artificial valve.
