Pediatric General Assembly Day, January 28, 2010
WE NEED YOU!!!
WHO: All child advocates!
WHAT: 3nd Annual PEDIATRIC GENERAL ASSEMBLY DAY!
WHEN: THURSDAY JANUARY 28, 2010
WHERE: Commonwealth Park Hotel, Richmond, VA
HOW: Come to Richmond and learn everything you need to know about the child health issues under consideration in the General Assembly this session and how to meet with your legislators! The morning session will culminate with visits in the General Assembly Building with your legislators. The day will conclude with a de-briefing lunch back at the Commonwealth Hotel.
Last year, over 40 child advocates, including pediatric residents representing all four residency programs in Virginia, attended the General Assembly day, most meeting with their legislators for the first time. Participants were surprised to find that legislators are not aware of all legislation pending and that meeting with them can help focus them on the child health issues that are pending. They were also impressed with the accessibility of the legislators and the genuine interest they showed in trying to understand the issues. Most participants had never met with their legislators before, but after the General Assembly Day, most planned to stay in touch with their legislators and continue to participate in the legislative process. As one participant summed it up,
"I really feel like I made a difference today."
This event is a collaborative effort between
the VA Chapter, AAP and the MSV.
It is hands-on legislative advocacy for new and experienced advocates!
