Visitation Procedures for Community Clergy and Pastoral Visitors

This information supplements the UVa Medical Center Policy No. 0050 on Patient Visitation. The University of Virginia Health System encourages community clergy and designated pastoral visitors to visit patients from their own religious congregations. Patients outside of their congregations may be visited upon request of the patient, members of the patient's immediate family, or the patient's guardian. Unit staff receiving a patient request for a visit by a community clergyperson should refer the request to the unit chaplain or to the chaplain on-call. The chaplain will contact the clergy to arrange a visit.
