October 24-30, 2004

UVA Health System Chaplains, local clergy and laypersons were honored during National Pastoral Care Week, October 24-30, 2004. The focus was on personal peace in the face of all kinds of crises in life as well as social peace between human beings.

Chaplaincy Services celebrated with a number of events, including the awarding of the Clyde M. Watson Jr. Distinguished Service Award in Pastoral Care and Education. This year's award was presented to the Dominican Fathers who have staffed St. Thomas Aquinas Church . These priests have provided 24-hour coverage for Roman Catholic patients for years. They have also taught a variety of courses for chaplain interns and residents, and have served on our Interfaith Committee.

A luncheon for area clergy was served after the award ceremony, followed by the Medical Center Hour presentation, "The Good Samaritan and His Genes."
