Chaplaincy Services to Outpatient Clinics

When you have a physical illness, your spirit as well as your body may be in pain.   Life may feel different and out of order.  You may ask:

"Why is this happening?  Will my life change?"

UVa Health System chaplains listen with an open mind and an understanding ear.  We respect your individual beliefs and your ability to use these beliefs in responding to illness.  If you want, we will share in this process with you.

It is not necessary to belong to a congregation or even be considered religious to call on a chaplain.  Chaplains will visit you in the clinic, or by appointment, if you think a visit would be helpful.

We Are Available For:   Prayer, Caring Conversations, Religious and/or Spiritual Care, Providing Sacred Literature, and Emotional Support.

If You Would Like A Visit:  Between the hours of 8:30 AM and 5:00 PM you may call the chaplains’ office at 924-2642.  After 5:00 PM, ask the staff to have us paged.

The Chapel: The interfaith chapel is just off the main lobby.  It is available for use by patients, family members, visitors, and staff at all times for meditation, prayer, and silence.

Office Location: The chaplaincy offices have moved to the second floor of the link. Please go to Patient and Guest Services in the main lobby, next to the information desk, and ask them to call chaplaincy. We will come to you.

Phone: (434) 924-2642.  Fax (434) 924-1139.  From within the hospital, you may dial 4-2642.

After-Hours Calls: On evenings and weekends, ask a staff person to page the chaplain, or call the hospital operator, (434) 924-0000, and ask for the chaplain to be paged.
