Prayers and Sacred Readings:
"Prayers for Children"
"The Phone Call"
by Brenda Stowers; dedicated to her children; used by permission, 1996
Pray for your children every day;
sometimes they always stray.
You worry and wait where-out they go
just because you never know.
That call comes one day--the one you dread;
the possibility that your child could be dead.
The crashing car the breaking glass;
the questions you’re afraid to ask.
The doctors talk and then you say,
“Will my child be here today?”
“We don’t know,” is their reply.
You feel numb. You want to cry.
You pray to the Lord, with trembling hands.
The time goes by like grains of sand.
Our God is who we hold onto,
because we know He’ll lead us through.
The following prayers were written by a fellow pilgrim...
God, bring comfort and strength to the child we love. Bless this child with your loving care. Strengthen us while we wait. Amen.
Gracious God, we bring (child’s name) to you for healing. Grant us peace. Remind us of your love. And help us wait. Whatever happens, help us to trust in your goodness. Amen.
Lord, I am so worried about (child’s name). Help me. I need hope. Thank you for answering my prayer.
Dear Jesus, whisper calming words to (child’s name) so that (he/she) is not afraid, not alone, but are at home in your arms. Thank you.
Heavenly Father, we pray for (child’s name) and (his/her) family. Help them make it through this dark valley. Thank you for your generosity and for what they need. Hear our prayer. Amen.
