CGH is currently sponsoring three fellows at UVa from the Department of Microbiology, University of Venda. Some are doing research on genetic and phenotypic resistance profiles of HIV-1 subtype C with Drs. Rekosh and Hammarskjöld at the Thaler Center for AIDS and Human Retrovirus Research. Others work on cryptosporidiosis and amebiasis with Dr. Guerrant's group in the Division of Infectious Diseases and International Health. UVa scholars have carried out short term research programs with Univen faculties in the areas of infant diarrhea and nutrition, water rights, and gender issues. Worthy of note is the establishment of Univen's Institute for Global Health, through the encouragement of Dr. Richard Guerrant, Director of UVa's Center for Global Health.
