1.) Amy Gueye, a rising 2nd year student, will travel to Senegal to study and explore the needs for cancer treatment in the underserved West African nation
2.) Sarah Moore, a rising 2nd year is traveling to Ghana. Her project is titled "A Comparison of AIDS Disease Management between Semi-Rural and Rural Ghana."
3.) Mark Troyer, a rising 2nd year student, is traveling to Honduras to study the prevalence of and contributions to illness in rural villages there.
4.) Anita Patel, a rising 2nd year student, is going to Ghana to conduct a comparison between disease management between rural and semi-rural populations Accra. She is working with Ms. Moore.
Arts and Sciences
1.) Temitope Awosogba, a rising 4th year majoring in History with a minor in Biology, is going to Benin to assess a mother's perspective of childhood diarrhea and its treatment in rural villages.
2.) Esra Bani, who is in graduate school of A&S earning her Masters in Public Health, will travel to Sudan. Her project title is "Understanding Gender Differences in Knowledge, Attitudes, and Behaviors (KAB's) of University Students (ages 18-25) towards HIV/AIDS and Voluntary Counseling and Testing (VCT) Services in Sudan."
3.) Daniel Brown, a rising 4th year majoring in Foreign Affairs, will travel to Russia to help evaluate drug treatment and prevention programs for street youth in Moscow.
4.) Megan Dunning, a rising 4th year majoring in Human Biology and Spanish, is going to Guatemala to conduct a study of malnutrition and iron deficiency in an indigenous community.
5.) Grace Healy, a rising 4th year majoring in Political and Social Thought, and Religious Studies, is going to India. Her project is entitled Community Activism and Sustainable Development in India: An Analysis of Outreach Efforts in an Environmental NGO
6.) Beth Henry, who is in graduate school of A&S earning her Masters in Public Health, will go to Brazil. Her project is titled "Cultural Implications and Misconceptions of Breastfeeding: Breastfeeding Behaviors among Disenfranchised Mothers in Brazilian Shantytowns."
7.) Heather Lyu, a rising 3rd year who has yet to declare her major and is enrolled in the new Global Public Minor, is going to South Africa to help create a radio program aimed at disseminating information about the maternal health needs of women in South Africa.
8.) Kourtney Maher, a rising 4th year History and Foreign Affairs major, will go to South Africa to help evaluate the effectiveness of the Sports for Life program, which seeks to advocate HIV and AIDS prevention among children and teens participating in team sports.
9.) Peter Matthews, a rising 4th year double major studying Political Philosophy and Policy and Law, will travel to Nicaragua to evaluate to efficacy of microfinance in alleviating poverty among indigenous populations.
10.) Ben McVane, is a rising 4th year with a distinguished major in Political and Social Thought and a minor in Biology. His project is entitled "The Role of Community Consultation in Promoting Ethical Obtainment of Informed Consent in Clinical Trials in Developing Countries."
11.) Varun Mehta, a rising 4th year pre-med student, is going to India. His project is entitled the "Role of Asymmetric Information on Breast Cancer in India. The Role of Awareness on Breast Cancer diagnosis and treatment in Urban India."
12.) Grace Milad a rising 4th year biology major, will travel to Egypt, her project title is "Demystifying the Coptic Orthodox Response to Illness & Disease"
13.) David Richards, a rising 4th year Biochemistry major, will study in Brazil. His project title is "Genetic variation in seasonal Cryptosporidial infections within a city in Northeastern Brazil."
14.) Yusra Shawar, a rising 3rd year double major in Neuroscience and Foreign Affairs, is traveling to Jordan. Her project title is "Community Leaders' Assessment of the Mental Health Concerns of Palestinian Refugee Youth in Amman, Jordan."
15.) Kevin Sinusas, a rising 3rd year Biology/Psychology major with a minor in Philosophy, will travel to South Africa. He project title is "The Tree of Life? Analysis of the use of the Moringa Tree in Addressing Major Health Issues of Rural South Africa."
16.) Manal Tellawi, a rising 3rd year major in Middle Eastern Studies, is going to Jordan. Her project title is "Accessible health care for the Palestinian refugees in the Marka camp in Jordan."
17.) Kai Zhao, a rising 4th year Chemistry major will travel to Brazil. Her project title is "Study of the ApoE gene in Mechanisms of Intestinal Cell Function and Nutrient Absorption."
School of Engineering and Applied Science
1.) Shoukoufeh Dinat, a rising 3rd majoring in Biomedical Engineering, is going to South Africa. Her project title is "Children as translators of technology: implementing a water purification system in rural Limpopo Province."
2.) Maggie Kirpatrick, a rising 4th year majoring in Mechanical Engineering and minoring in Biomedical Engineering, is going to South Africa. Her project is titled "Tshibvumoni Village and Preschool Development Project."
3.) Ritwik Sahu, a rising 3rd year Systems Engineering and Econ double major, is going to South Africa. The project title is "Employing the Internet: Will Good Things Grow?"
4.) Veronica Yeh, a rising 4th year Biomedical Engineering major, will go to South Africa. Her project title is "The Health Benefits of Digesting Manure: How to Communicate Biofuels as an Alternative Energy Source in Rural South Africa."

1.) Jess Keim, a rising 2nd year working for her Master of Science in Nursing, is going to Lesotho. Her project title is "The Mbeya Program: UVA School of Nursing Global Health Initiative."
