UVA SOM International Elective REQUIREMENTS:

All UVA students conducting study, work or research abroad are required to comply with UVA/ISO policy. Electives will not be approved or added to the elective schedule until all requirements are completed.

                           International Studies Office Waivers

Complete the ISO Study Abroad Application/Data Health, and Waiver forms.

  • Visit the ISO Medical Students page and click the "Apply Now" button.  Use your eservices/netbadge ID and password to log in and, when prompted, enter the Application Access Code: MEDGIS073 (third to last letter is a zero).
  • On your ISO homepage you will be able to see what application(s) you have filed as well as additional student information.  Please edit your student information and indicate what, if any, CGH-OIH funding you will receive.
  • Click on the Medical Students: 4th year Rotation link to access and complete the pre-acceptance application materials .
  • Approximately one week after the both SOM and ISO materials are complete, you will receive an email from the ISO prompting you to login and continue completing the post-acceptance materials .

If your research involves human subjects, you must apply for either HIC (Human Investigation Committee) or IRB (Internal Review Board) approval.

a) on-site mentor evaluation
b) trip report

Please know that UVA students traveling abroad cannot travel to countries with state department travel warnings and receive any UVA support (monetary and otherwise) or academic credit.
