Spend Your Summer Abroad

Are you interested in interdisciplinary health-related research and international service? Funding is available to students from the Center for Global Health for the summer of 2007 research projects in impoverished areas. Past scholars have worked in India, Mali, Ecuador, Ghana, Thailand, South Africa, Tibet and Brazil on projects ranging from HIV-AIDS peer education to original research in ecomedicine and ethnomusicology.

The purpose of the CGH awards is to encourage UVA students to address health issues in developing countries or within marginalized populations of developed countries. In doing so students have the opportunity to engage in cross-disciplinary work which operates at the intersection of academics, research, and service.

The Center for Global Health will grant travel awards in the amount of $3000 on a competitive basis in support of 2007 summer research projects. It is not too early to begin planning. Come join the IMC and the CGH staff for the informational meeting where we will discuss how to write a proposal and provide a list of faculty who have been willing to help in the past.

Summer Abroad Interest meeting:
September 17th
