Evacuation Insurance is recommended for anyone traveling abroad and is required for students doing electives in developing countries.
The Chickering Plan provided travel benefits, including Medical Evacuation and Repatriation coverage – confirm that you have the same coverage before you leave the country. The benefits are only available when services are coordinated through and provided by Assist America. In the US and Canada call 1-800-872-1414. International Student Identity Card (ISIC) (available at Peace Frogs)
ISIC- is an International Student ID Card. All UVa students are required to purchase this card before studying abroad — the card comes with automatic insurance and provides travel discounts to students. Some of the insurance provided includes emergency evacuation insurance to $250,000, repatriation insurance to $25,000 and basic accident insurance to $5,000, basic sickness and accident coverage, baggage delay coverage and lost passport replacement services. In addition to the insurance benefits, the International Identity Cards provide cardholders more than 25,000 valuable discounts around the globe, 24 hour Emergency Assistance Services, and a comprehensive communications package called ISIConnect. The card may be purchased locally at STA Travel (located in Newcomb Hall) or Peace Frogs Travel (Barracks Road).
