Congratulations on your award! We look forward to hearing about your work upon your return. Please remember that prior to funds disbursement, OIH requires the following:
Complete and submit documentation including
a) Online Application for International Elective
b) School of Medicine International Elective Form (to the Electives Office)
c) Health insurance including evacuation insurance
d) Proof of all recommended vaccines (signed off by student health)
e) International Studies Office online data, health and waiver forms on the ISO Medical Students page.
f) If your research involves human subjects, you must apply for either HIC (Human Investigation Committee) or IRB (Internal Review Board) approval.
Arrange a follow-up meeting with the April Ballard upon your return to submit a copy of the following:
a) trip report
b) on-site mentor evaluation form
Post trip publicity, that may include either
a) oral or poster presentation at an UVa event, or
b) paper submitted for publication
Please know that UVA students traveling abroad cannot travel to countries with state department travel warnings and receive any UVA support (monetary and otherwise) or academic credit.
While you are away, we strongly encourage you to keep a journal. For many scholars it has provided a resource of remarkable value.
