Metals in Medicine and the Environment
This course explores ways that metal compounds interface with human biology from a molecular perspective. Metal nutrients, metabolism and storage; exposure, accumulation and toxicity; molecular probes, sensors, imaging agents and therapeutics will be considered. Metals from across the periodic table, case studies from around the globe, historical examples and present day societal challenges will be discussed. Relevant principles of inorganic chemistry will be addressed.
