Molecular biomarkers for G.U. and G.I. malignancies

During the past five years, Dr. Frierson has focused his cancer research efforts on uncovering the molecular alterations in carcinomas of the prostate, bladder, upper gastrointestinal tract, and salivary gland (adenoid cystic carcinoma). As a histopathologist, he has used the techniques of histology, immunohistochemistry, tissue microarrays, laser microdissection, and gene expression profiling as tools to analyze transcript and protein levels in these carcinomas. These RNA/protein levels are investigated as biomarkers to determine their diagnostic or prognostic utility.
